Ahmedabad Plane Crash: 241 Dead Including Crew Members

Ahmedabad (Web Desk) – An Air India passenger aircraft crashed near the airport in Ahmedabad, a city in the Indian state of Gujarat, resulting in the death of 241 people on board, including 12 crew members.

According to Indian media, the former Chief Minister of Gujarat, Vijay Rupani, was also among the passengers on the ill-fated flight.

Reports say the crashed aircraft was carrying 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, one Canadian, and seven Portuguese citizens, including 11 children.

According to foreign media, Air India flight AI-171 managed to reach only 625 feet in altitude at a speed of 322 kilometers per hour after taking off from Ahmedabad Airport, before crashing due to a technical failure.

The incident occurred between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM local Indian time.

Following the crash, flight operations at Ahmedabad Airport have been suspended, and emergency has been declared at local hospitals.

Flight radar data shows that contact with the aircraft was lost in less than a minute after takeoff, when it reached an altitude of 625 feet.

Meanwhile, the Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) stated that the aircraft's captain had issued a “Mayday” call at 1:39 PM, shortly before the crash.

Media reports indicate that the crashed Boeing 787 aircraft was 11 years old.
