Terminated Health Employees Protest, Demand Reinstatement
Sanghar (Hasnain Ashiq Saand) Contract health employees in Sanghar staged a rally and sit-in against their termination, strongly criticizing the Sindh government’s decision as “unjust and cruel.”
The protesters said that despite rendering services during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, they had not received salaries for the past 14 months. “When even brothers avoided shaking hands due to the deadly virus, we continued to serve the public at the risk of our lives. Instead of being regularized, we have now been dismissed,” they complained.
They added that the Sindh government had been paying them Rs. 18,000 per month, whereas the officially fixed minimum wage for a laborer stands at Rs. 40,000.
Carrying banners and chanting slogans, the terminated employees marched through the streets and later held a sit-in outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office. They demanded immediate withdrawal of termination letters and urged PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to take notice, reinstate them, and ensure regularization along with payment of pending salaries.
The protesters warned that if their demands were not met, they would expand the scope of their agitation across Sindh.
