Literary Event in Tando Adam Highlights Shah Latif as Guardian of Sindhi Language

An intellectually rich literary and academic gathering titled "Fikr-e-Latif" was held in Tando Adam under the theme "Latif: The Guardian of the Sindhi Language", hosted by the Sindh Graduates Association (SGA), Tando Adam chapter. The event took place at Waryah House and aimed to explore the intellectual legacy of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, focusing on his pivotal role in preserving and promoting the Sindhi language and culture.
The session was presided over by SGA Tando Adam President Ghulam Qadir Bhacho, with renowned scholar and literary figure Khalid Hussain Channa as the chief guest. Senior politician and PPP leader Javed Shoro participated as the guest of honour.
The keynote address was delivered by eminent writer and researcher Atta Chanhion, who emphasized that Shah Latif was not merely a poet, but a profound thinker, reformer, and a voice of resistance whose verses embody love, truth, human dignity, and social awareness.
Latif laid the foundation for the survival of the Sindhi language. His poetry is a treasure of historical consciousness and national identity. It is imperative that the youth become familiar with his message,” said Chanhion.
At the beginning of the program, distinguished guests were honoured with traditional Ajraks. Those recognised included Bashir Ahmed Khaskheli, Dodo Panhwar, Zahid Hussain Memon, Dr. Hidayatullah Keerio, Shan Mahar, Pathan Khan Khoso, Ikhlaq Waryah, Mansoor Bijoro, Zulfiqar Ali Jatoi, Sagar Daharaj, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, SGA President Ghulam Qadir Bhacho described Shah Latif as "the heartbeat of Sindh", stating: His verses are not just poetic expressions but represent the collective identity, language, culture, and philosophical heritage of Sindh.”
Representatives of Sindhi Adabi Sangat, including Central Secretary General Noor Chakarani, Najeeb Mehran and Education Department officer Liaquat Chandio, also addressed the audience. They stressed the importance of bringing Latif’s teachings into homes, schools, universities, and literary forums.
The event concluded with a soulful performance of Shah Latif’s Wai by Mukhtiar Chakarani, which mesmerized the audience. A special Q&A session on Latif’s poetry was also held, engaging students and literature enthusiasts in thoughtful discussion.
A large number of writers, teachers, students, and youth participated in the event, which was widely appreciated for its academic depth and cultural relevance. Participants termed the gathering a valuable effort to connect younger generations with Shah Latif’s timeless message.
