Abro Community Protests Police Raid, Alleges Looting and Arson
Sanghar (Hasnain Ashiq Saand) Residents of Ali Bakhsh Abro village in Tando Adam staged a strong protest against the local police, accusing them of conducting an unlawful raid in collaboration with private individuals. The protesters claimed that officers from the B-Section Police Station stormed their homes without warrants, violated the sanctity of their households, looted valuables, and set at least one house on fire.
According to Arbab Abro, one of the affected residents, the police entered the village late at night along with armed civilians, allegedly supporters of rival individuals including Sanaullah Abro, Noor Abro, Gada Hussain Abro, and Aashiq Abro. He stated that these individuals opened fire in the presence of police officers, creating fear and panic among the villagers.
The residents allege that the police broke into homes without female officers, harassed women, and looted jewelry, cash, and other valuables before setting a house ablaze. Four men Abdullah Abro, Ali Bakhsh Abro, Bhuro Abro, and Zulfiqar Abro were reportedly taken into custody and remain missing.
The protesters said this action was taken under the guise of investigating the murder of Jan Muhammad Abro, who was found dead on his agricultural land on May 20. However, they claim the real culprits are the deceased’s own nephews, who allegedly killed him over a land dispute. Instead, they argue, a false case has been registered against four other villagers Wazir Abro, Hassan Ali Abro, Subhan Ali Abro, and Yar Muhammad Abro two of whom have already been arrested.
The community has appealed to the Inspector General of Sindh Police, the DIG of Shaheed Benazirabad, and the SSP of Sanghar to initiate an independent and transparent investigation into the incident. They have demanded the immediate release of innocent detainees and strict action against the police officials involved in the raid.
